Eve was a very popular puppy, we recieved lots of applications and Sue had the difficult challenge of finding Eve forever home. The only fair way was to screen the applications in the order they were received and Kim Cumming application was the one chosen to give Eve her forever home . Eve will have a canine companion in Poopy and 2 feline companions also.

We are sure that Eve will add much love and laughter to Kim's family. As always we look forward to updates and pictures as Eve becomes the newest member of the Cumming family.

I'm so very lucky to have baby Lily-Eve in my life! She's a WONDERFUL puppy - soooo sweet, smart, and responsive! She and her big sister, Poppy, are already best friends. They play hard (see the video below), groom each other, and often nap with Lily draped over Poppy. Lily gets to go to work with Poppy and me a couple of days a week, where she is making all kinds of new friends. She even went to a lunch meeting (at a sidewalk cafe) with me a few days ago. She napped, lapped her water, chewed her toy, and napped some more. She wasn't even all that impressed with all her sidewalk admirers - just barely lifted her eyelids as they bent down to touch her soft puppy fur.

We'll start Puppy Kindergarten in a couple of weeks - mostly to continue socialization, especially with other dogs.

Right now, she is sleeping and snoring (loudly) on the living room floor - ready for bed in her cozy crate any minute.

Thank you for all you do for orphaned animals! It is really a privilege to have this beautiful baby in my family.

Check out Lily Eve now! Here she is with her sister, Poppy! : ))
Dawn
What a big, pretty, and happy girl she is now.
Kimberli
She sure is! She's such a wonderful puppy - a star pupil in Puppy Kindergarten, and a joy at home. smile.gif

Thank you again and again for allowing me to have her in my life.

What a grat shot!!! Eve has such an expressive face and eyes. Poor Poppy though, she looks like she puts up with a lot from Eve, she seems so patient.
Kimberli
Hee hee. Yep, Lily Eve is pretty expressive. Don't feel too bad for Poppy; when Lily is in the crate, Poppy paws at it and whines until I let her baby back out to play. She is a very patient big sister. They love each other so. smile.gif

Lily Eve is growing up and continuing to prove herself an amazing little girl. She reached a milestone last weekend - lost the last of her baby teeth. This is really good news because the last two (lower canines) were hanging on right next to the big girl teeth that had grown in to replace them. I was a tiny bit worried we'd have to have them pulled. But no, nothing a rousing game of tug with her big sister, Poppy, wouldn't take care of. smile.gif

Other news from last weekend (July 4)...Lily weighed in at 47 pounds! Pretty soon I won't be able to lift her to weigh her myself and we'll have to only use the scale at the vet's office!

Lily Eve is such a funny, loving girl. As you can see from these photos, she loves her wading pool. On hot days she'll make sure to lay down fully immersed on each side and then walk directly to the back door asking to be let in to air conditioning. No stopping to shake off excess water or anything. We've had to compromise with a thorough toweling-off, but she actually seems to like it. She stands patiently while I towel dry her, and even waits a couple of seconds after I'm done to see if maybe I'll start again. Then she goes in and finds her favorite air conditioning vent where she lays as close to it as caninely possible, sometimes upside down with wet belly exposed to the cool air.

Last week's big accomplishment was for Lil to learn how to get up on my bed all by herself, rather than having to wait for me to give her a boost. She watched Poppy and figured out that the bench at the foot of the bed is really a doggy stepping stool. WOW, how exciting for a girl to find her independence! Now she goes up and down - very frequently - whenever the mood strikes.

Thanks again for the work you do to rescue so many beautiful dogs like Lily Eve. I hope someday you'll consider me as a foster mom! smile.gif

Warmly,
Kim

Kim,
Just great shots of your little girl!! I'm still wondering if she is part New Foundland. Newfies are water dogs, they love the water and are used as lifeguards. Maybe someone in her history got the breed info wrong or, someone actually lied. Sometimes people lie to hide a breed thinking they are giving the dog a better chance of being adopted. Newfies are large dogs and someone might have thought it would be hard to place such a large breed. I fosterd a dog who I was told was a German Shep/Lab mix. The dog was black and tan (which could be a GSD), but it was very fine boned. Also had short hair like a Doberman. The head shape, plus size and postion of the ears, looked Afghan to me. After watching it's body action when walking or running, and the shape of the tail, I was thinking it was an Afghan mix. The people i got the dog from swore they were told by the original owner that it wasn't Afgan at all. I was able to get the vet paperwork for the original owners and sure enough it was listed as an Afgan/Doberman mix. The original owners knew the breed mix yet lied to the people I got the dog from. They probably thought listing it as aDoberman would hinder it's adoption.

Keep those updates coming, I'm dying to see how she looks by two years old.

Hi Dawn,
You know, it's funny - her Petfinder listing was "Golden Retriever/Newfoundland Mix," and it was only after I brought her home that I heard the possibility of "Flat Coat." Actually, I think "Flat Coat" is actually how she's listed on the original vet paperwork I have from y'all. Who knows? I love Newfies; I am less familiar with Flat Coats. Whatever she is, she's awesome and I love her very much. smile.gif

We just got back from a long walk around downtown Ann Arbor after a stop at Washtenaw Dairy for some ice cream (vanilla doggy cones for the girls, Superman for me). I have a couple of very tired, very happy pooches sacked out on the floor at my feet.

The big news of the day is that Lily jumped into the back of the Mini all by herself for the first time tonight!! Usually she just puts her front up and then I give her a boost from the back. But not tonight; she jumped in right after Poppy just like a big girl! Baby's getting big! I'll keep the updates coming. smile.gif smile.gif

Just what we like to hear; a dog being pampered with walks and ice cream. Isn't it great to see your "fur-kids" go through all thier milestones and grow up.
Kimberli
Lily Eve's latest milestone: to leap into Mom's big bed right from the floor without even needing to use the bench for a boost!

Enjoy some photos from yesterday's hike. smile.gif

Cute, how Eve decided to take the puddle over playing with her sister.
Kimberli
Baby girl LOVES her puddles, pools, streams, and any other bodies of water for laying in. When we get home from walks she trots immediately over to where her pool should be filled up with cool water and looks at me expectantly until I oblige.

I can't wait to see her in snow. I'm guessing she'll be in second heaven, just like Poppy. smile.gif

Yeah, you definitely have to send winter pictures.
Kimberli
I will for sure!

Today's photo: Lily Eve tired out after our morning walk. She loves laying on the ceramic tile in the bathroom to cool down, especially when, like this morning, she's still damp from a soak in the pool. smile.gif
