Well, we knew it wouldn't be ALL cuteness and fun all the time! Sam had to endure his first taste of thunder in his new house-- and we had to endure it as well. It's a pretty heartbreaking sight, I must say. He shakes like a leaf and looks for a safe place, out of which he simply will not be coaxed. I thought he was a bit better on the second day; I think I was able to distract him during some minor rumblings with a little play outside. But he remained timid for quite a while.

And we've found he's afraid of other things as well. A flyswatter today had him pretty frightened-- both before and especially after I used it. But after I set it down and did some encouraging, he at least got close enough to it to eat the fly! (Then promptly acted afraid of it again!)

Of course, we're working on it all... and love him all the same.

Aww.

Sounds like you are doing the right things; trying to distract him with fun stuff during the storms should help.

Sam is soo lucky to have such wonderful people!
