I am looking for a German Shepherd for my mother. My mother is 96 years old and has had German Shepherds all her life. She had to put her 14 year old German Shepherd down and I am looking for a new dog for my Mom. If something happens to my Mom, her dog will come and live with me. My Mom has 17 children, 41 grandchildren and 50 some great grand children so there will be several faces to love this German Shepherd. My mom would perfer a female, she wants a dog to bark when someone pulls in the yard because her hearing is not what it used to be. It would sleep in the house with my Mom (but not in her bed) and would be able to be outside during the day unless it was cold or rainy and then would be inside. She has a dog pen outside and a dog house on her porch, she lives on a 80 acre farm and it would be a great dogs life. Just need to find one. If you can help me find the perfect rescue dog please contact me at mpowers@garanlucow.com. Thank you. My phone number is (810) 384-6520.

Since dogs are pack animals leaving them out side in a pen is a bad idea. Dogs want to be with their pack or family.
We will not adopt dogs to outside living even if it just in the day.

Thank you!
We totally agree.
A shepherd for a 96 years young lady may be just a bit too much to handle in an emergency.

My opinion only.

You misunderstood, me. The GS would be outside when he wanted to be, he has a dog house, a kennel and a house that he has access to at all times. When it is a nice day and the dog wants outside, he is put in the dog kennel on the day when the garbage man comes or the meter reader, he or she is not in there for more than 1/2 hour. You totally misunderstood me, this dog would not have outside living, he or she would be treated like a king.

When you reach the age of 96 and you have raised German Shepherds all your life, I hope no one insults you and tells you that you are too old to have a German Shepherd. Cheyenne who is up in doggy heaven would have some words for you.

I’m sorry that you disagree with me. I do know that if somebody comes (the garbage man the meter reader etc.) I would be hesitant to allow my father, who just happens to be almost 97, to attempt to put a large dog in a pen. You did state you wanted the dog to bark so I would think the dog would be wanted to show at least a small amount of aggression.

I applaud your mother for “raising” German Shepherds all her life, however what you are asking is more than most legitimate rescues and breeders would consider.

Once again “my opinion only” not the opinion of any of the rescues associated with this forum.
