PLEASE HELP BRONSON! Let me first tell you about Bronson. He came in to Ingham
County Animal Shelter as a stray. Everyone fell in love with Bronson. He has one
of those one of a kind personalities. He would never hurt anything. When his time
was up FICAS rescued him and placed him in a foster home. Yesterday the gate was
left open to the foster mom's fenced back yard and Bronson decided to take a
stroll down the sidewalk. He walked to the end of the block and then turned
around and was headed back home. He got right in front of his yard when the
pitbull from across the street charged out after Bronson. Bronson met him in the
street. Bronson's foster mom was not home at the time. She also cares for a
mentally handicapped man. He was home. Bronson's activties were witnessd by a
neighbor that lived two houses away. The owner of the pit came and tried to pull
off his dog and got bit in the process. He then went in and got a shovel. He
proceeded to beat on Bronson's head until he had
succeeded in smashing in Bronson's right side of his skull. Bronson then went
down and the man then took the end of the shovel and was jabbing it into
Bronson's neck trying to cut off Bronson's head. He did manage to chop about 2
1/2 inches through the muscle of Bronson's neck before the police officer
arrived. The neighbor had called the police. They took Bronson home. When I got
there poor Bronson was still wagging his tail at me. I rushed him out to MSU vet
clinic. The prognosis was dim. But Bronson has the will to live and I didn't want
to destroy that will simply because I didn't have the money. I decided that if
Bronson had that much fight left in him to pull through this then I would have it
in me to find a way to help him. Yesterday I was told that his vet bills would be
$800.00. I wrote a check for half of it. This morning the vet called and said
that it would be $1,000.00 because of the extensive wounds. Tomorrow he is going
to ask for help with a fund they have there to
help animals like Bronson, they have all fallen in love with his spirit too. He
said that it might cover his stay starting tomorrow for a couple more days so
they can monitor all the drainage tubes but does not cover any of the weekend. If
you can find any extra in your hearts and pocketbooks to help Bronson, all of us
that have fallen in love with Bronson would be eternally grateful. Bronson also
needs a foster and (or) permanent home. Vic PLEASE talk to Bob!!! He can not go
back to that neighborhood. He will need a quiet home during his recuperation. He
is completely housebroken and a joy to have around. He loves everything and
everybody. If you are not able to help either financially or with a home please
pray for Bronson. God works miracles and I know he was with Bronson yesterday.
FICAS fully intends to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. We will keep
you updated. If you can help with Bronson's vet bills

UPDATE FROM HOLLY
Ingham County Animal Control is going to gather the information over the next
week and is moving forward to prosecute. It is a matter of AC gathering their
evidence getting the police report, witness statements etc. The MSU vet is
writing a statement to the severity of the neck/shovel wound and the Lansing
police officer on the scene advised us to prosecute for cruelty as well so
everyone is on Bronsons side. I promise we will do our best to be sure that we
get justice for Bronson.....we will use the news/press appropriately. Let's just
let AC, the cops and MSU do their jobs right now. I know a lot of you do not
have faith in the system, but the system has to be given a chance to work still.
So the ball is rolling on this just so everyone is aware.
THANK YOU everyone for your help, Sherri...for all the Dobe support (I have
gotten emails already!), to each of you for the donations. We did talk to the
vet this morning, Bronson finally ate this morning, which is a big step and he
is out of the woods in regards to his head trauma. More info as it comes.
Sincerely,
Holly

Update from Holly
I *just* walked in a few minutes ago. Bronson left MSU.
I am floored at how damn resilient dogs are! I always will be!! He
looks/acts 100% better than he was. Don't get me wrong, he is definitely still down and out but he's wagging his tail, taking treats, is happy to see
everyone. He is just more himself than he was. He is currently at my vets, they
have an intern that lives above and she is scheduled to go in through out
the night to check on him periodically. He also seemed to show some dog
aggression issues (go figure) with select dogs at MSU. He has also growled at
a few folks there...which is completely OUT of his temperment. So
that is another reason to keep him at our vets for the time being to make sure
his head injury hasn't affected him in any other way. You have to cut
the guy some slack though, he has been poked, proded and is still in pain.
I'd growl too. But all in all, I really think he is on his way to recovery
for sure. I feel much more positive and upbeat than I did earlier today
for sure.
One thing that could be a problem later on is possible small chips from his
skull in his sinus cavity. They break off, have no blood supply and die.
Necroptic. Sometimes they don't bother anything, sometimes they will get
infected and cause problems. So this is one thing up the road that could be
a problem for him. We'll just have to see.

I was talking to my Mom in FL (Plant City) this morning and started to tell her about our boy, Bronson. I was describing what happened and she told me that she heard about him on the national news!!! Woo Hoo!!! The more people that hear about this the better!!! It's just so sad that it had to happen in the first place

We want to thank ALL the very generous donors from ALL OVER the country that have come to Bronson's aid. We have sufficient funds for his MSU bill and for quite a bit of aftercare that will be required. He has been released from MSU and is currently being monitored by a private vet. He is improving RAPIDLY and seems to be feeling MUCH better! We will update with more info as it becomes available. THANK YOU to everyone who said a prayer for him!

Just wanted to let you know how things are

He needs a home with no small kids, can have other dogs
but would need to meet in advance, NO dominant/pushy/aggressive dogs (he
reacts immediately to them now). He seems interested in cats, but really not
that interested. I'll check him again with cats but I don't think cats will
be an issue. He is SO laid back when he's comfortable but doesn't like being
stuck in a run. :-(
Here are some new pics just taken. He has really perked up
Please fill out an application if you can offer this boy a home.. He has had so many Angels come to help him. But he is still in need of his one true Angel that will care for him and love him for life.
If your his angel and can offer him a furever home
PLEASE COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION

I know this ordeal was with Bronson quite a time ago, but I saw his new family 2 weekends ago. No one will recognize Bronson! He is doing wonderful with his new family. The Fauvers adopted another needy shelter Dob X (that looks like his sister!) from the shelter about 3 months ago. They all showed up for "alumni day"....and had to get a picture of my own. Thanks again to everyone who helped.......the life that Bronson now has is pampered and SO loved!
Sincerely,
Holly
