Hi Sue,

So far so good!! He’s doing way better than we expected! Clare and Manny are getting along great… both just have constant wagging tails. We grilled chicken for dinner and they both got some pieces after… they both sat politely and waited their turn. The cats aren’t thrilled with him but are basically just going about their usual business and Manny has been keeping his distance after being hissed at a few times. The great thing is that he hasn’t jumped up on anyone. Also, he has been fantastic on a leash. Emma has had him out all afternoon on walks and he is great for her… doesn’t pull at all, stops when you stop and waits politely. He has also been listening really well when we tell him to sit, stay, lay down and shake. We’re all very entertained by his catching abilities. He loves stuffed animals!! I think the kids will have to put up any good ones. We’ll buy him a few at petsmart tomorrow. I’ll keep you updated and send some pictures soon.

Thanks for all you do!

Hi Sue,

I think this morning I was having sort of an “oh no, what did we do?” feeling… Manny seemed really nervous, panting like crazy and I was feeling a little overwhelmed. But, tonight I feel like he has really calmed down a lot. He seems like he’s actually looking us in the eye versus having kind of a wild, glazed over look. He’s hanging out in the house with us, following us around instead of trying to frantically explore. At first we just kept him on a leash in the house so we could keep a close eye on him. Now he’s off the leash and sticking right by us. Today we had to leave him for 2 hours to go to a baptism. When we got home we parked on the street so I could sneak around the back of the house and spy on him… he was sound asleep in his crate and Clare was sound asleep on the sofa (her usual spot). We’ve been taking him outside a ton… lots of potty time to make sure he doesn’t have any accidents. He’s been drinking a lot of water but probably because of all the panting. Also, he’s had tons of exercise… he’s so good on the leash! He also started giving us some big slobbery kisses… the kids think it’s hilarious… Joe and I aren’t so sure but we’re happy he’s showing affection!!

Right now Joe is sitting on the sofa holding our youngest who is aleep, Emma and Sam are also there waiting for a movie to come on at 8 and Manny is laying right in front of them on the floor playing with a stuffed animal… really cute!!

Talk soon,
Angela

Thank you Angela & Joseph Eisenman for choosing to adopt another rescued dog. Sounds like he is beginning to realize that he has found his forever home. Please keep us updated on Manny and Clare.

Hi Sue! Thanks for checking in with us. Manny is doing wonderful. The only
real problem we're working through is his excitement/agression toward
other
dogs. It's a little difficult in town because we have so many dogs being
walked but if we spot a dog first or at the same time as Manny we can now
tell him "leave it" and he doesn't go charging (leash and all) dragging us
toward the dog. He seems to be listening more to us versus just going
crazy
in those situations. Up north he is perfect though! He is never put on a
leash unless we go for a walk. He stays right in our yard and is very
friendly to any visitors. We even had friends up over the 4th that have an
older female lab and he was a perfect gentleman to her. Manny and Clare
continue to get along great. They even play "chase" once in awhile and
Clare
NEVER plays with other dogs... she has always been way too serious.

Joe and I continue to be amazed by the way he runs... I think it's his
"happy" run. Maybe it's just a big dog thing but when he really wants to
take off, it's like his whole front end gets so far off the ground and he
just floats through the air... it super graceful looking... you wouldn't
think 80 lbs could look graceful but it does. He has his regular run but
then does this "flying" thing. I should get it on video for you!

I'll send a few new pictures soon!

Unfortunately, Manny crossed the bridge. He was much loved by his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. There is no doubt that Manny had it better with the Eisenman's than he had ever had it before. He is missed by his family. Thank you Manny for all the love you shared with all you met.

Angela and Joseph, my heart is breaking for your family. The loss of a "fur-kid" is such a terrible thing. I can tell you from experience though, that one day when you think of him you won't be as sad as now. In that memory will be all the love he gave you and the vision of how much he enjoyed life with your family. He was able to do that thanks to you taking him into your hearts. One day you will be able to smile through your tears as you recall some of his antics. Maybe the quantity of his live with you was short, but you more than made up for it cause of the quality of life you gave him. He got to know what it was like to be a happy dog, to feel love, and be able to give love and loyalty in return.
