Well, it isn't crafts, but...

The other day i went to St. Vincent's looking for some blankets that would make a good pillow cover for a dog pillow that was donated for our dog. (The thing is huge and it would be easier and less expensive to just wash a pillow cover.) Well, i didn't leave there with anything for myself or my dog. I did however leave with items to donate to KBAF for your rummage sale and craft shows coming up. They are doggy and kitty food dish place mats. they are so cute!!! (i was so excited i found something for you guys!!! and that i could afford it!!! i LOVE shopping at St. Vincents!)

Please contact me so i know how i can donate these items.

What are the dates of rummage sales and craft bazzares? I'm pretty crafty and could come up with some things to donate to help raise money. smile.gif I like crow's idea of pillow covers...I've made them in the past for camp pillow and could easily make a bunch up of varying sizes and colors for dog pillows.

The Bazzar dates have not been assigned yet.. Come spring is when the bazzar come on but if we had crafters we could also do some ebay auctions extra

I'm a crafter and have been for years. Mainly sewing. I also do scrapbooking. I can either donate holiday type stuff...reindeers, snowmen, etc. Or I can make something that someone else might suggest. I can make greeting cards for everyday or holidays...even can put a picture of someones cat or dog on it. Really cute...I made a card for my mother in law with her Jack Russel Terrier on the front as a thank you card. I have a lot of ideas...I just need to know what ideas others have....how to go about getting the stuff to you...what you may want....etc. I'll be watching this board...so let me know. Also...what about gourmet doggie or kittie treats in cute bags to sell?????? There are lots of possibilities...and I'm open. What type of fundraiser you may have coming up...what might do best on E-Bay if you are doing that....you know...all the good stuff.

Thanx...

I'm a crafter ........ when I have time.
I've found that simple, low cost "dollar type" items sell pretty good at craft shows or in local shops, vet offices, etc. who may be willing to let you put them there.
Bandanas are a huge hit! You can buy fabric at Wal-mart for a buck a yard sometimes. I'm going to attempt to attach a photo of one of our rescue pekes Shues with a flame print bandana to show just how sharp they look smile.gif

Great link! Now if only i were crafty. *sigh* (I'm one of those people who need to be walked through each step. My father is one of those people who could build an airplane blindfolded after taking one look at a set of instructions.)

I couldn't help but laugh at the part about having the dog stand still.

My mom and dad bought a lavender dog coat for their mini doxie, Bebe (another rescue older dog, named BB because she had such bad breath and ended up having 13 teeth extracted!) but it didn't fit well. My friend Cindy and i cut the leg openings off and sewed it back together, but we found that the stretchy part of the leg opening made a great "headband" that covers her ears when she goes outside. Not sure if it could be done with regular material (it's not got elastic inside, it's just a stretchy kind of knit) but they'd be really cute to sell. I'll see if i can figure out how to get a pattern, but i still suck at sewing.
How about slip covers made in the sizes of those memory foam dog pads they make? I know there's usually a zippered cover over the pad but a nice "pillowcase" type cover would be easy to remove and wash? I plan to make one for Jazzi, if it goes well, would that be something that might sell?

Also, does it have to be animal related?

A pillow case would be easy enough to make for dog beds... but you know what. Many of us out here are not skilled.

Finding pillowcase covers for dog beds of a decent material and decent price is next to impossible.

I'm sure it would be a great seller.

Maybe you could do pre-orders so that people could specify the size they want so that you wouldn't have products sitting around with no one to buy them?

Ah HAH! I'm not skilled either!! Maybe between 2 (or 3 or 10 of us we could figure it all out? wink.gif

I've actually made one dog bed and one pillow case before... But you know what?

I was apprenticing under the careful eye of someone that knew what they were doing. AND they did most of the work.

I couldn't work a sewing machine if i tried. ...And i have tried and have failed. Several times.

Zippers are a pain in the butt, but are well worth it.

Anyhow... Dog beds are quite simple to make if you can use a sewing machine. The best part... dogs aren't going to care if one side looks a bit lopsided. lol.

It cost almost as much to make the dog bed though as it is to buy one.

Marshalls' in Midland actually has designer dog beds for a decent price. about $10 lower than standard dog beds from say... PetStoreCo.

Ehem, sorry. The cover slips though shouldn't cost too much to make. As much of a fan as i am of zippers though, i think Velcro costs less.
