I keep waiting to have an acceptable picture of Brandy, but haven't gotten one yet, so I'll just let Aida and all know how she is doing. Just a reminder, I adopted her this June, four year old black and tan.
Brandy absolutely loves the farm! She loves the pond! The barn cats add spice to her life, although they occasionally give her a sore nose! None of the goats take her very seriously, but she tries to impress them. She made the mistake of running into the horse pasture just once to tell off one of the residents. There is one picture I wish I had from this fall -- she was standing out on the deck over the pond -- it was a gorgeous sun shiney day and the wind was blowing. She had her nose up in the air, and her ears were flying in the wind . . . what a wonderful picture of a dog truly enjoying her life!!!!
She and the daschunds still have their differences, but not too bad. She is so smart -- has already learned a couple new tricks. We "dance" around the house, and I've thought about doing some obedience or something with her -- she's just about the smartest dog I've ever had (and I thought my other doberman was smart) (she was, just not very obedient). She's learning how to snuggle, but still refuses to jump on my bed and sleep with me.
Just wanted to report in how well she is doing. I am so pleased with my adoption of an adult dog, I think I will do just that from now on out. As a family physician, I don't have the time to train a puppy, but Brandy has been a wonderful experience.
When she first came (for about the first two weeks), she didn't bark, and I was worried about her deterrent value, but the daschunds have shown her how to make a great deal of impressive noise -- right before she licks people to death. One of the ladies who boards a horse out here has an Australian blue heeler (Ruby), that has become her fast friend. Even from the house, she recognized the sound of Sandy's truck from the house and begs to go out and play. They have run around at full speed for up to two hours without rest . . . it's amazing to watch.
It is just refreshing to watch an animal enjoy her life so much, and to know that you have been the instrument to help that be possible!
Sincerely, Rene Shelly
