Unleashed and loving it in Lansing: Dogs free to fetch, frolic at new park

Dozens of dogs were free to do what they do Monday: chase each other's tails and simply lie in the shade.

"I'm glad my puppy has a place to socialize," said Alex Haluska, 19, of Lansing, as Newfoundland-German shepherd-mix Monty played with other dogs. "It keeps them from chewing on me."

The Howard & Erna Soldan Dog Park, Lansing's first leash-free dog park opened Monday in Scott Woods Park.

The dog park is free and open to the public, but has a parking fee.

It is open from 8 a.m. to sunset every day.

Park Manager Willis Bennett said construction of the 17-acre, $90,000 park began in April.
