GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) - (08/17/07)--A Flint woman was in the Genesee County Jail Friday night, accused in a bizarre case of animal cruelty.
Witnesses say they watched as Patricia Beardsley tossed a puppy off a second-floor balcony at home on Flint's east side.
The puppy is a 6-month-old Pomeranian and the veterinarian that treated him says his chances are good for a full recovery from this horrific act.
The dog's name is Sadie Mae, owned by Josie Tasley.
"She's the only thing I got right now," Tasley said.
It's hard for Tasley to believe that someone would want to hurt her Sadie Mae.
"She's precious," she said.
But Thursday afternoon while Tasley was running an errand, neighbors say her roommate, Patricia Beardsley, did the unthinkable.
"She was screaming, saying that she stepped in dog poop and the dog chewed up her furniture or her daughter's toys or something," said witness Rita Mattson.
"Next thing you know, she came out and the dog was going over the balcony. She just tossed it out and there it goes," said witness Leona Anderson.
Witnesses say without a second thought, Beardsley threw Sadie Mae from the balcony at her home.
"She just kind of went into a little circle," Anderson said. "She couldn't walk straight. She just went into a circle. She couldn't do anything."
"I didn't think she was going to make it," Tasley said.
The puppy was taken to EasCor Animal Hospital.
Sadie Mae is not only Josie's puppy; she's also her companion and she's grateful she only suffered a dislocated hip.
Beardsley has been charged with one felony count of animal cruelty.
