DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police have seized three pit bulls outside a business believed to have been used to host dogfighting matches.
A fighting pit, medication typically used to treat injured dogs and a trophy also were found this afternoon at the auto shop on the city's west side.
Humane Society investigator Michelle Baxter says a search warrant was served on the building after police happened onto what is believed to have been the end of a dogfighting match.
When police approached several people outside the shop about 5 a.m. they all ran into a nearby wooded area and a neighborhood. No arrests were made but three dogs were found in cars parked outside.
The pit bulls have bite wounds on their heads, bodies and legs. Baxter says the dogs will be euthanized.
