Snake Bites Dog

MASONVILLE, Colo. -- A Colorado Chihuahua is being called a hero for protecting a baby from a rattlesnake.
According to Monty Long, of Masonville, Colo., the family's 5-pound dog, Zoey, jumped in between Long's 1-year-old grandson and the snake when the two got too close.
"She knew the baby was in danger," Long said of Zoey. "(The baby) didn't know what the rattle sound was, he didn't realize the snake was there."
The 1-year-old dog was bitten and required treatment.
"There is a puncture above her eye," Long said. "The ... snake actually slit her head."
Long eventually killed the snake, which measured more than 3 feet long.
