A black pearl that gave me a smile http://dogoftheday.com/archive/2007/June/06.html Reminding me of my own.

Through out history there is a legendary creature commonly referred to as a Grim. They are often thought to be the bringers of bad fortune. They are almost always portrayed as a black dog... My grandmother M's friend rescued a dog when he was down south. She takes care of the dog half the time while her friend is away on vacation. (Really it is 1/2 her dog. lol.) The first time i seen this dog my breath caught in my throat and i stopped dead in my tracks. 'Grim' instantly came to my mind. She is 1/2 "Pit" and 1/2 Lab... and one of THEE MOST FRIENDLY dogs you'll ever meet. One time i was watching her and one of my friend's had the same reaction i did... except my friend almost ran in the opposite direction. Not because this dog is part Pitty, but because she really is the all encompassing Grim. I definitely have a better understanding of the legendary creature now. ... They are not the bringers of bad luck... Oh no... They warn of bad things and may even protect you from them. biggrin.gif So next time you see a Grim don't be afraid of it, stop to think about what they are actually trying to tell you. They're as misunderstood as any other black jewel. I feel blessed to actually have met one in the flesh.

Black dogs are just as lovely as any other dog out there! (I never even knew that there was a stigma against them until i got involved into the rescue world.)

The only thing i knew people were superstitious against are different colored eyes. (one blue/one green)
