I am posting this message in regards to a recent adoption listing of a cat named Mattie. Hopefully someone out there would be able to provide assistance with helping me find a home for Mattie. I personally rescued Mattie about four weeks ago.
I absolutely love Mattie and have provided a lot of care and attention to her, but I am having great difficulty with my current cat (Izzo) adjusting to Mattie. Mattie has been in my home for three weeks, but I have been caring for her for four weeks. She was a stray cat, searching for a place to call home. I opened my home and my heart to her. As noted above, I rescued her from my neighborhood and was hoping to keep her in my home. She was clearly a stray cat. However, I am unable to keep her to due to the reasons listed below.
Izzo was also a rescue cat and has been in my home for two years. My mother is active with Katy Bishop and rescued Izzo. He was approximately six months when he entered my home. Izzo is not friendly to Mattie and often stalks and pounces on her. Mattie is confined to a lovely room with a bed, natural light, food, water, and a litter box while my husband and I are at work and sleeping, but I have been letting Mattie roam free in the evenings and weekends. Mattie is absolutely terrified of Izzo, as Izzo pounces on her. We need to continually monitor Mattie when she is loose. I understand Izzo may be upset that we have brought Mattie into our home, but I would do anything to help them adjust to each other. I have even tried using a Feliway Electric Diffuser, which emits cat pheromones into the air to soothe the cats. It is completely natural and is used to emit a soothing environment. However, the diffuser is not calming the cats. As additional information, Izzo is a male cat, and Mattie is a female cat.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to help the cats adjust? As noted on my posting for Mattie, she is such a lovely cat and would be a wonderful addition to any home, especially a home without other cats. I have had numerous medical procedures performed on Mattie, and she is in fabulous condition.
Help please! I wanted to keep Mattie, but the adjustment is quite difficult not only on the cats but on my husband and me as well. I am also four and a half months pregnant and am concerned if the stress and time commitment are affecting my unborn child.
Are there any suggestions out there? Is there a welcoming home that would treat Mattie with the love and care she so much deserves?
