Lucas arrived yesterday afternoon and he is already a beloved member of the family. He settled in nicely after Dawn left and took two rides in both Mike and my trucks yesterday. He had a little trouble figuring out how to get up in my big one ton truck but settled in the back seat nicely after he figured it out. Mike took him out also and Lucas fell asleep in Mikes little S-10 pick-up so Mike kept driving around so that Lucas could sleep. He has been following me everywhere and in fact is lying next to me as I type this update. He opted for the rug next to the bed last night rather than his new doggie bed but that's ok the other dogs and cats find it quite comfortable. I took all three dogs for a two mile walk this morning and they all got along very well on their leashes. Lucas stayed right next to my side whenever a vehicle passed us on the road. I am so looking forward to more spring like days so that we can all walk. I will attach a photo of Lucas and Bear playing in the snow this afternoon. It was great to see them getting along so well. He is such a beauty and Mike is totally in love with him already.

Doc

Christine
Doc,
My last 4 dogs have been adopted in one form or another, human society, stray, and unwanted animals. I have no doubt that adoption is an excellent choice. I have unlimited love for all animals and would have a houseful if I could afford too and didn't have to work. I showed pictures of Lucas to many people today, just like a new mother with photos of their babies. I will send photos often, never fear.

HI CHRISTINE AND LUCAS I feel like such a neglectfu foster mom, for not posting up here sooner. My computer is down, and sometimes I don't feel like waiting an hour for getting to use one at the library. I am thrilled to see that you posted so quickly, and with a picture also. Lucas had such a hum-drum life before that I was esthatic to see him being playful with his new brother, and so quickly.

He really is such a sweet heart isn't he??? I've fostered a lot of dogs, but he is one of the extraordinary ones that touched my heart, deeply. Make sure you keep us updated on his PF too. He is under control now, and Sherri will post that info up on the web-site for PF. He could become the poster boy for PF. Putting up all the good news about him, and how he responds to the food and such, will give a lot of other owners of PF dogs some hope. Also a lot of other people in general were interested in his welfare too, they would love to keep hearing about him.

In case you don't know about this, there is a way to be notified whenever ANYONE adds to this posting. When checking this story, click on options and then click on track this topic. That way you will get an e-mail notice whenever anyone adds to this posting. I have already done that and so I will be notified also as soon as you put anything up. That way you won't have to post in one place and forward it, or post in two places, it will be done automatically for you.

Just an update on Luke after his first month. WE LOVE HIM! He has settled in like an old member of the family. My grandson was up last week and my daughter was a bit hesitant about letting my dogs near the baby. My grandson, Landon, was lying on the floor and Luke walked up to him, sniffed him and lay down next to him as if to say "I'm here to take care of you". I have begun giving Luke his Prednisone and Benadryl in a hunk of Braunsweiger. He now comes running the minute he hears a pill bottle rattle hoping to get a treat. The other dogs have adapted to eating the new Chicken Soup dog food, and just as Dawn thought my little Maggie, who has had chronic ear infections for years, appears to be less symptomatic since switching to this brand of food. Luke still seems to have trouble walking on the Pergo floors that lead from the kitchen to the outside. He carefully walks from rug to rug to keep from slipping on the floors. He is always rushing to get outside for his walk but doesn't seem to slip if he walks calmly. As you can see by the attached pictures, he is as spoiled as the other "kids" and has adopted their habit of sleeping on the couch.

Although Lucas is doing wonderful, I wish I had a happy ending story to tell everyone. My wonderful husband Mike passed away unexpectedly 10 days ago. I am walking around in a fog trying to understand why he has been taken from me. Thank God for my family and my animals. I feel so alone right now since all of the human family has had to move on with their lives. I am so grateful for my animals as they are always here for me. I believe God brought Lucas to me for a purpose. Although, we all know what a sweet heart he is, many people are intimidated by the appearance of a German Shepherd and that may be a good thing now that I am all alone. Thanks again for allowing him in my life.

Christine,
We are so sorry to hear about Mike. Perhaps Lucas was introduced to your home for a reason. We know he will never replace Mike, but may he bring you a sense of peace as you go thru this troubling time.

Doc
Christine, we are very sorry to hear about your husband.

He is your protector now. Again, we are sorry to hear of your husbands passing, you are in our prayers.

Sherri
Christine,

I am so very sorry, You are in my prayers.. I really believe life is a test, and because some are very special they don't have to stay as long on this earth. Take comfort in the unconditional love Lucas, Maggie and your other give you. One day at a time.

You are family.

Sherri

Dawn
Christine, I am so sorry for your loss. I only met Mike once, but I could tell he was an extraordinary guy. I can imagine how deep your loss is. I agree with everyone else that God put Lucas in your life at that particular moment to help you with losing Mike. I know Lucas, and your other two kids, are doing everything they can to help you cope, by giving you extra "lovies" whenever you need them. Dogs sense things and they will unselfishly be your rock to lean on at this time. Remember, whenever you are going through on your way to Davison, you are always welcome to stop by with any of the kids (especially Lucas). Sherri and I would love to see you. God Bless, and keep in touch.

Christine,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. I know that all your animals will bring you comfort. I too believe that God brought Lucas to you for a reason. Christine I know this might be a little forward but I believe that Psalm121 may help some in your time of need....

I lift up my eyes to the hills-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you-
the Lord is your shade at your
right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all
Harm-
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your
coming and going
both now and forevermore. You are in my daily prayers,
Laurie

Dear Christine,

I am so sorry for you loss. I hope that the love that Lucas and your other "babies" give you will give you some relief from your sorrow. I agree that Lucas is with you for a very special reason. Know that we are all here to support you.

Dear Christine,

I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot even begin to imagine what you must be going through, but I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I so admire the individuals that are willing to take in the special needs animals; I know that they are very special people indeed. I cannot help but wonder if, just as much as you took in Lucas because he needed you, perhaps God sent Lucas into your life because he knew that you would need him just as much. Lucas sounds like such a special, loving dog; he sounds like a special blessing that God sent your way. I've found that pets can be such a comfort in times of sorrow; they just seem to know when they are needed the most. They know when things are wrong, and they stay especially close during those times; kind of like special, 4-legged guardian angels. I wish there was something that I could say to help ease the pain, but I know there's not. Words just seem so inadequate during times like this. But, may it help, if just a little, to know that others care.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Terri (Lodi's Mom)
