I am asked all the time, how I can take in animals into my home with the purpose of giving them to their new families. Don’t I get attached? Fostering animals is not easy, but I know of nothing more rewarding.
Each of my foster animals takes a piece of my heart with them to start their new life. But they leave behind memories, and unconditional love that only an animal can give. I do my very best to pick a family that will love them and care for them. I am sure that mistakes have been made.
One of the hardest things is going into an animal control looking into the eyes of those I know I can’t help. There are just to many, not enough help. There are many nights, I cry myself to sleep, and I will never understand a world that a life can be so disposable.
I know that I must take faith in that, every animal that comes into my house is spayed and neutered and will not add to the problem of overpopulation. People are being educated; I have many friends and other rescuers that do understand and are working as hard as I am to save these so worthy animals. I am not alone, and we are getting stronger with each new rescuer that joins the fight. Each time new adopters choose to rescue rather than reward a breeder we grow and get stronger. Each time that I feel I can’t go on and am crying for those that are lost, I can think about the stories of one of my former fosters that their new families generously share. These stories and pictures make the fight so worth it.
On my knees I thank the Lord every day, for bring these remarkable lovable animals and their new families into my life. They touch my life and add so very much.
For those that have adopted from me, Thank you. As you celebrate this holiday season,
know that you have made a difference.. Give your animal a hug, and Know how much love
they have.
