It has been exactly 2 years since Liberty had to leave us, and she is missed every day.
We had lost Kelly and a few months later I was looking for another
Setter. I saw an advertisement in the paper “Female Gordon Setter free to a good home” But I didn’t call, I was looking for an Irish. After a week the add disappeared. About 6 weeks later the same adv. showed up again, so my son and I went down there. We were told that the dog had been given away but she was returned “ because she was so dumb”.
I decided after hearing that the reason she was being given away was “we just bought new furniture” that she deserved better. Was given a bag of dog food that I assume was mostly saw dust, put Lib on a leash and my son took her to the vehicle. Emptied the food on their lawn, and brought our Gordon girl home. On the way we stopped at a bar that we hit on occasion, bought her a 1/2 pound burger
and it was inhaled, fast friends then. lolol She wasn’t dumb, you just had to know her language.
She was a great hunter, and started bouncing when ever a shot gun appeared. In short She was a great old girl.
A month before we lost her, she started in on the water, lost her appetite, and started dropping weight. The minute we saw her hitting the water we took her to our vet, the Diagnosis was chronic renal failure. Several tries to jump start her kidneys, the special diet and meds were tried, nothing worked. On the night of Nov.09 Lib was alert, went out at midnight as she always did, begged a treat when she came back in and we went to bed. On the morning of the 10th Liberty was in a coma, unfortunately her time had run out. Now she waits at the Bridge for me. She was only 10 years old. We had 5 good years together. A few days ago while hunting in an area that her and I always did good in, I could almost see her walking ahead of me, flushing the pats and a few did flush, I wonder.
In memory of Liberty, a well mannered gentle girl, a great friend, companion and an excellent hunter.
