Our clinic charges by weight. They also have a policy that if we have never seen your pet and its over a year its manditory to have a preop blood work done.

In Lenawee county (I live in Adrian,Mi) It seems like the spay/nueter costs are outragous.It cost us $65 to get Comet nuetered and between $115 (for a yorkie) to $130 for our gsds ! Anymore it's getting more expensive to take the critters to the vet than us go the dr's !

It costed me $175.00 to get my 6 month old german shepherd spayed in Newaygo, MI.

Is the anethesia that much more for a large animal? My vet charges the same regarless of size. His price varies depending on whether it's a male or female - but only about $10 difference. Last time I had a female cat spayed it was around $50. I think the prices are the same for dogs too (although I haven't had a dog spayed in a long time). That cost doesn't include shots because my vet wants all shots; rabies, parvo, distemper, etc.. done at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.

I just had a very small dog nuetered. Beginning rate for a dog up to 50# is $87.00, but does not include pain meds, or being on a monitor during surgery. Those are $30+ per item. That was in Ogemaw county.

FGCAS uses Adopt a Pet in Fenton for most of our s/n. They charge by weight. For a spay on a dog 40-60#, it's $61. The require that you drop the dog off at 7a and pick up the same day before 3p.

While the dog's under anesthetic, they'll clip nails, check ears, do a quick exam. If they find ear infections or other things (like needing a dental), they'll prescribe meds and let you know their findings. They don't do dentals or other work for us.
