Michelle Malkowski made the trip from Farmington Hills to adopt Rusty. Michelle was lucky enough to be the first so she got the pick of the litters. Rusty will have two buddies at home to show him the ropes as he grows.
Please keep posting pics and updates as we love to see them as they grow.

Our sweet Rusty was been sick with kennel cough and had to make a visit to the vets. He did have to stay the night and is on the mend. Here is an update from Michelle. You have to love the free month of Petcare insurance!
Good Morning Allison.
How are you doing today? Me I'm doing better. I just got off the phone
with the vet and he said that Rusty is doing better. More then likely
he won't be coming home until tomorrow though. That sucks but he will
be coming home in good health.
What the vet said this morning is that he is much, much perkier. He
still has diarrhea but not as bad as yesterday. He is going to give him
some food today and if he keeps that down then he will give him some
oral medication. The good thing here is that he hasn't thrown up at all
so I have a feeling that he will keep that food down. But I have a
feeling that he won't be home until tomorrow. As soon as I hear
anything else then I
Will let you know right away.
Again thanks for everything Allison

Hey, not to sound like an idiot, but...
I was wondering, would I still be able to sign up for the free month of petcare?? I TOTALLY forgot about it, had alot on my plate after and since getting Brody, even AFTER Arda told me not to forget about it, and that it's worth it. Anyone??

Allison,
I just got off the phone with the Vet again and they want to
keep him for one more night. :-(
I know it's for his own good but it doesn't do my stomach and my heart
any good.
What he said was this: He is trying to eat and it's staying down. But
is stomach is still tender and hurts him. He said about an hour ago he
was in there making all kinds of noise and that made the vet feel good.
He said that now he's depressed again. I said that is because he misses
me!!!! He said with him staying one more night he's hoping to avoid me
taking him to a specialist for an ultrasound on his stomach. So he is
going to give him more meds and see if this works.
So one more night for my little man. I can tell you this much.....He is
now going to be a bed dog and he will be do spoiled it's not even
funny!!!
I'll let you know more tomorrow.
Thanks,
Michelle

GREAT NEWS.........RUSTY IS COMING HOME TODAY!
The vet left a message on my cell phone last night saying that Rusty is eating and drinking and is very happy. He is going to call me this morning and let me know exactly when I can pick him up. He said that he will send him home with some meds but it looks like there is nothing more to worry about!
I'm telling you that I finally got a good night's sleep last night after hearing that news. THANK-YOU......THANK-YOU.....THANK-YOU.....for everyone sending Rusty and I their good wishes. You do not know how much that means to me.
When he gets home tonight I will be snaping a bunch of pictures and will put some on the site as soon as I figure out how. LOL
Again....Thanks everyone!

Emotional roller coaster.....That is what I am on right now everyone.
Rusty has pneumonia. That poor little baby is so sick but is improving.
Yes I did say he was coming home today but when I called to pick him up the vet gave me the news. For a dog that I have only had in my life for less then a week I cried like a little baby sitting at my desk at work. I am crying typing this right now. I left work to go up to the vet to see Rusty and the vet was amazed. The way he was acting when I was there made her think that we would be fine if he was at home. It was one of those on the line decisions. So we tried taking him home. The poor little guy couldn't get any rest because he wanted so badly to play with the other dogs that we would sleep. He kept coughing and that was making his stomach hurt more from all the coughing. The vet said that the coughing is good though because he needs to get all that yucky stuff out of his lungs. On top of that he was moaning because he was so no happy being so sick. We took him back to the vet and she sat down on the floor with us and gave us a few options. All the noises he was making were normal because of him being so sick. The vet said she can keep him for one more night and give him more IV with more meds and something else to open his lung passages more to help him breath and something to perk him up more. We decided to let him stay one more night. I want to give this little guy everything even if it means he will be away from me for one more night.
Ever since we came home the vets has called me twice. Once to tell me they peeked in on him and he was finally sleeping. Which is what he needed....BADLY. When they called the second time the vet said that he'd been back there barking for about an hour. GREAT SIGN and she was happy. Which in turn mad me happy and cry some more. Happy tears this time.
There was one thing that the vet pointed out to me. When they told me at work today that he wasn't going to come home I said that I was worried that he wouldn't remember me. That he wouldn't want to bond with me anymore. But when we took him back to the vet and we were sitting on the floor Rusty was standing on my lap with his arms and head resting on my shoulder....The vet looked right at me and said; Michelle look....(pointing at Rusty) and you were worried about him not remembering you and not bonding with you.....I think he remembers.
Well everyone.....Now I promise when I get him home I will take a picture and put it on the web site so you know he is here to stay this time.
Thank-you again for all your good thoughts.....And give all your dogs a great big hug and kiss and let them know again just how much you love them.
Believe me I have been doing that to my other two all day!
Good night for now
Michelle

Oh Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear about Rusty, and the trials and tribulations you and the little guy have had to go through in such a short period!
If it's any consolation...I have a little bit of a story for you.
I had my first Dobe, BJ (memorial page, brief write up and pic) since he was 7 weeks old. When he was 5 months, he got terribly sick, where the vet finally told me he didn't know if he could save him or not, and it broke my heart. He was in there for 4 days, and I died a little more each day, thinking the prognosis was going to be bad every time
BUT...then he got better, and came home. And I swear to you, he KNEW that he was there because of me having faith in him getting better, and he was the most devoted, loving dog I could have ever had the priviledge to KNOW, never mind have as my own companion.
Rusty will remember that you were there for him, cared for him, and brought him home. He will love you devotingly for it, and never forget it. You and Rusty will have an unbreakable bond after going through this. He'll be yours forever.

Well I just got off the phone with the vet and he said that my baby needs some love and I can pick him up today. I want to get excited but won't say anymore until I see his little face sitting on my bed looking up at me wagging his tail.
So when I do get him home I will be taking a picture for everyone to see.

Guess what? Rusty has gotten the all clear from the vet! He is pneumonia free!!!
He is doing great the vet said. Everyone at the office can't believe how well he is doing and they all come out to see Rusty when he comes in.
Last week when he went in he weighed 10lbs 14 oz. You would not belive how much he weighed this time.
14 lbs.

OH YEAH.....HIS APPETITE IS BACK!!!
So because he did so good we took him to PetCo and got him some special treats from the Pet Bar.
I'll keep eveyone posted on my little cutie pie. And of course send more pictures too

Vet Update......................
Rusty gained 2.6 pounds in a week. Not as much as the week before but the vet said he is on track. He said he likes the progress Rusty has made. The vet's office staff is totally in love with him because they were there when he was so sick so when I bring him in on Saturday's they all come out to visit.
I do believe that this is the first dog I've had that loves going to the vet because he knows everyone there!
I'll post a new picture soon.
Take care,

Such good news! Rusty is one tough guy - and he's gaining weight, too. Like Jane says, always nice when they don't mind going to the vet. For Rusty, he's been there so much, it's like going out for a "visit" versus getting treatment. I'm so happy for you, Michelle. You're a good Mom.
