Could everyone please post their dog's names with their posting name? I'm new here and it's very hard to keep the dogs and owners straight.

So I will start by introducing myself.
My name is Jane, and I have two dobermans, Tiki (black) and Tango (Red). Tango I adopted from Michigan Anti-Cruelty, and Tiki is from Second Chance Dobes. I got her in 2001.
Thank you!!!

Hi Jane,
My name is Cheryl and I adopted Coco from SCD yesterday. Coco is an 8 month red/rust dobe and very sweet girl. I lost my girl Niko on Jan 6, 2005. I also adopted her. You can read about her in the Memorials and Grief Support Forum.

It's very nice to meet you. Thank you for steering me to your tribute to Niko. It was such a touching memorial for a beloved dog. Congrats on your new addition! I wrote more in my response to your Coco post. Thanks for responding.

Jane,
My name is Cathy and I adopted Suzzane (blk/tan) in 2001 and Doodgee(Doogie)(blk/tan) in 2004 both from Second Chance Dobes. I had a Dobe named Zeus about 9 yrs ago, who passed at an early age, from thyroid. It took along time for me to be ready to open my heart to another and now..... I have two!

My only regret is I waited so long.
I am a volunteer/ adopter/staff/ for Second Chance Dobes. Welcome to the board and please feel free to share all your stories with us!

Thanks for the welcome, Cathy, it's nice to meet you!
I have to smile

because I know that you know how great it is to have two dobes! These two little goofballs of mine have been ambassadors for the breed for years now. The entire neighborhood knows them because we walk around every chance we get. They have helped small children overcome their fear of large dogs, and even some older neighbors who have held on to a fear of the breed for the better part of their lives.
I'm so glad that you decided to take the chance and adopt again. I can read the joy in your heart. It's wonderful of you to volunteer! Tiki and Tango thank you!

Hi Jane,
My fiance, Armin and I adopted Finn, a 9 mo. old Blue Doberboy, from SDC last Sunday -- a week ago today! We also have a 3 year old Red Doberprincess named Ella, whom we adopted just over a year ago from a Humane Society just outside of Toronto. That's where we live -- last weekend we drove 10 hours round trip to pick up our boy, and BOY was it worth it!

See the "Blue Gets his Valentine" postings for the week we've had...
Cheers,

Very nice to meet you too!
So sorry to hear about Max.
So happy to hear about "Monster Boy", hahaha! And another volunteer! Good for you. I'll have to drive out there when the weather gets better and try to figure out if there is some way that I can help too. Your enthusiasm is contagious!

Hi there Meghan!!
Oh a brand new adoptee! I'll head right over to read about your week. So glad to hear that you would make such a long trip to rescue your new baby!!
You must have your hands full with two young ones! Tiki is turning five and she is just so full of energy. When she was 3 she was literally running over all the dogs in the neighborhood. They are such terrific little nutcakes at that age aren't they?
Nice to meet you!

Hi, Jane -
My name is Linda. My husband, Dennis Edwards, and I adopted two SCD dobes on November 6th - Grindle and Betty Boop. Their photos are posted at: "Grindle and Betty Get a Forever Home." I've been a Dobe owner since 1972. I think they are a wonderful breed and a great family pet (my son learned how to walk hanging onto my first Dobe, Greta).
This is a wonderful board, which provides a wealth of information. Plus, look at all the Doberman lovers out there!
I think your roll-call idea was a terrific stroke of genius! Helps us figure out who's who. Nice to meet you.

We were told after our first and only child that we couldn't have any more children so we went the rescue route. Now we have a house full.

Hi Mary,
It's really a privilege to meet you.
You know I've read some of the stories here and was just totally blown away by the stories of thunder and Adonis. I'm so sorry for your loss. The pictures and stories were so powerful that I was truly at a loss for words. That doesn't happen to me very often. I just couldn't even respond to your posts.
I'm so happy that Brady is doing so well. I told my husband his story last night and said that people who treat animals like that need a good long jail term after a terribly long horse whipping.
I pray that Brady continues to thrive and that he makes your life a source of continual joy.

Hi backatcha Linda!
Wow, another person who walked off with 2 dobermans. Yes, you must really love and know the breed to make a decision like that!
We've only had dobermans since the early eighties! Our first dog was a German Shepherd who gave us fourteen wonderful years. After she died I made it three days without a dog and went down to the local pound and picked up my first Doberman on her final day before euthanizing. I brought her home and have been hooked on the breed ever since.
I agree, they are tremendous family pets.
Thanks so much for responding. I'm glad that you appreciate the post. I was really confused not knowing the stories and all. I'll go over and read your story now. I hope there are pics!

Ah, yes, so you are the ones with the itty bitty shepherd with the ears! hahaha!
I was looking at the pictures last night and was laughing so hard that my husband had to come and see too. What an absolutely wonderful family you have there. I am just in awe that you can handle it all with such seeming grace and patience. All the work I put in to my two and I was just floored to see that someone could handle five dogs with such ease.
My hat is off to you!!
We don't have children so our dogs are our babies too. How they do fill a void even when there are days when I feel like I have toddlers who will never grow up and leave home ... if you know what I mean!
Keep up the good work.

My dear Arda!
You probably don't remember us, but we drove up to your place and let our red dobe, Tango, out of the suv. She wasn't walking very well and was there to pick out her pet doberman. I asked you for a non-dominant one and you brought out a couple of dogs and then asked for someone to bring out "Dominique". Dominique had just delivered a litter of puppies that were a mix, if I recall correctly. She had just been neutered a few days prior and all of her puppies were adopted out by you. I remember you saying, "She was a very good mother." You told me that she would regain her shape again soon because she was no longer nursing. You let her off the leash and she ran like the wind with a red male with the sweetest temperment. She would fly by Tango tempting her to run, something that she hadn't done in a long time. We watched them interact and Tango wagged her pompom. She picked Dominique. I then went to the car to get my checkbook and she didn't even ask for permission. She jumped right into the car like she knew she was going home. And she did.
Thank you, Arda. The story that you shared with us that day never left me. Your sacrifice is truly inspiring.
Oh and ..... Have shovel, will travel - although I normally use plastic bags because they really enjoying leaving calling cards on the neighbor's property when we go on our walks.
So nice to chat with you again!!! You are an

Hey there, Jane!
My name is Jenny, and I adopted Brody*black/tan* male dobe, approx.10 months old (actually, BRADY's brother, who was Thunder, and Brody was Lightning) on January 29, 05 from SCD. I previously had a black/tan male dobe, named BJ, who passed away December 28/04 from "Wobblers". (brief write up in memorial section, and pic) SCD put my heart and mind in the right direction, though, to open up my heart once again to this wonderful breed!
I will announce here, though, that I am COMPLETELY addicted to this website now, and like you, am amazed at the wonderful dobe lovers out there!
And, hopefully, will be able to donate some time to SCD next Saturday, Feb. the 26th...that, and I'll be able show Brody off, and how beautiful he is....

teeheehee...
Nice to meet EVERYONE!

Hi Jenny!
So you got the other half of Thunder! What a great gift to him and to you!
My first dobe had Wobblers but the Lord took her with a stroke before the Wobblers had it's way. It was really an awful malady for my poor Sheba. I'm sorry you had to go through it all, but I'm so happy that you decided to use Brody to help you to heal your grief.
I've spent an awful lot of time on this board myself today. My husband wondered what I was doing. I'm also thinking about volunteering some time out at the kennels. I have to make arrangements and get directions and all of that. I haven't been out there since 2001 and then I was only there once. I haven't got a clue what needs doing or how things are scheduled.
You sound so excited. It is so nice to meet you!

Hi Sarah,
Congrats on Greta. She is such a little cutie and reminds me so much of my Niko, whom awaits me at the Bridge. You can read her story and view her pictures under the Memorials Forum. Had you not adopted Greta, I probably would have brought her home. I visited Arda and her kids a week ago and fell in love with Coco. This past Sunday, I brought her home. You can read about us in the Happy Ending Stories Forum. She is a little sick right now but I am hopeful that she will be better soon!

Hi I am Sherri, and I created the Rescue Animal Adopters Forum because I felt that Adopters of rescued animals are special people and would become more involved if given the opportunity. Sharing your former homeless and unwanted animal stories educate many of the plight of the homeless animals. Because of you old wifes tales of animals being homeless and discard because of faults in the animal are proven false with each happy ending.
I wanted to create a place where rescues ,volunteers and adopters could come together and share in the joy of their animals, get advice and make friends. The wonderful adopters and people on this board have made it very wonderful way to feel better even on my worst day. Many times in rescue you see the worst in people, but thanks to you all sharing the life of your dogs we are seeing the best. I would like to take this time to thank each and every one of you. Together, love will win over greed.
I do alot of puppy mill dog rescue and am owned by 3 mill ambassadors my heart dog Matthew a 14 year approict poodle rescued from the chicago mill where he was one of 200 kept in a crawl space of a house a chain saw with poodle blood on it was part of the evidence against the miller, Madison a maltesse with an attituded that had a very hard time over coming her former life in the mill, and a chocolate poodle Courage, that we are hoping one day will gain some courage.. and a older German Shepherd Tasha who was rescued from Midland County Animal Control before a class B dealer could purchase her to be used in cruel lab experiments.
I rescue here in Bay City with my partner Maddie and we do all breed rescue.
and our pets are listed on petfinder on Katy Bishop's Animal Friends. And I house a number of fosters, I been rescuing ever since I can remember. And I have seen improvements, because of caring people like you
But it is the adopters, that promise a better life, give the second chance that truly make what I do worth while. Your dogs and happy families educate more than all my words, A picture is worth a thousands words and because of you many more will have happy endings.

Feb 21 2005, 05:20 PM
Hi Jane, My name is Vicki Wood and am known as Gracie's Mom on the message board. I had a 16 year old choc. lab that I had to put down last March (he was full of cancer). During 2004 I had lost my job, my home and my car, but loosing Sam damn near killed me. I am a first time doberman owner and Gracie is a huge beautiful red girl with all her ears. I came upon SCD in such a circuitous way, that I can't help but feel there was some kind of divine intervention there. I got a new job, a new home (no new car) and Gracie. She has brought such joy to my life and my teenage sons' life that we're hooked on both SCD and dobermans for the rest of my life and feel with her, our new road in life got a real jump start. Gracie's name was originally Boomer and I'm suspect she was abused. She is 4 years old and I have a very little 4 year old Sheltie, 5 cats, 4 love birds and a rat. Gracie does well with everything, but the cats and we're continuing working on that. I'd be at SCD every weekend, but live too far away (about an hour or so). We have done SCD runs with a van full of donated items. The law firm I work at even did a fund raiser and I'm proud to say we supported Doggee until he got the wonderful forever home he did. Hopefully, some day our paths will cross as I do plan to try to volunteer at least once a month when the weather gets better. With SCD, not only did I get this wonderful creature, but this message board has opened up a world of just wonderful people for me and I can tell another wonderful person (you) has been added to this amazing group of people.

This is a fabulous post, Sherri. It should have a title of its own so that no one misses it. Your experiences are so important to people like me who are looking for a way to help but just aren't quite sure how to go about it. Your persistence in finding ways to rescue, including starting this board, are really something that should be lauded. I salute you, my dear. Thank you very much for all you have done and will do. Hi Vicki!
It is just so nice to meet you. I'm sorry about all the hard times that you've been through and am so happy that you are on the road to recovering from all of it. I understand about the loss of your dog. One year I had 5 funerals and my dog died and I cried harder for my dog than anyone else. I don't think non-dog owners understand that. The grief was terribly deep.
Look at all you are able to do! For sure I have to get off my lazy you- know- what. You are inspiring me!
Thanks for your kind words. I hope we cross paths soon too. Take good care.

Yipes you have lots of dog experience! Maybe your dogs could teach mine a thing or two? I just got excited when I got them to quit having accidents in the house, and when they learned to run to the door before they threw up! The only words they cared to learn all had to do with their needs. "hungry?, outside?, pills?, peanut buddy?, biscuit?, rawhide?, go get your ball, go get your baby, go get Tango, is he home?, go for a walk around the block? They know a couple of other words but they grumble when I say them. Like "stay, sit, quit picking on your sister, drop it, no, no biting, no barking, go to your crate."
Then there are the words they will never learn like, "don't chase the <put moving object in here, any moving object>"
Thanks for the welcome. I'm really impressed with the number of animals that you are able to care for and foster. I'm especially impressed that you can share the love of doing it with your daughter. Now THAT is very touching and a reflection of sharing your heart.
Thanks for responding.

Hi Jane,
I teach my dogs the "Leave It"command. This command can be used with just about anything. Right now I am using it to teach them not to chase the cats. It really works great and I can adapt it any situation just about.
"Leave It" means stop whatever you are doing and leave it alone.
Just an idea!

Jane...
I MUST commend you on the AWESOME idea of the roll call!! I love getting acquinted with everyone from reading their posts in this forum, and I just think it's fabulous you came up with this idea!! I already intro'd myself in an earlier post, just wanted to give a "right on" for your thoughts!!
Hope everyone and their fur-babies are doing great!!
~Jen & Brody~
P.S. Anyone else's house have "Attack of the Killer Shadows"???? Brody goes NUTS, I mean, CRAZY nuts over shadows, which I don't mind, as long as my 9 month old daughter isn't crawling where his shadows are lurking, waiting to attack him or his family members....

It's nice to meet you Christine! Yes, your Harley is a dollface! Is that a spiked collar? My Tiki is a real thief too. Tango says "I can relate to Jewel, poor gal" Your house sounds so very full of life.
Yeah, the happy endings are so wonderful, aren't they? They must be especially touching to those who know the dogs personally and have worked with them. Wow.
Thanks for responding!

Yes, Harley has a spiked collar.. More for look than anything he's such a lover. As long as someone is petting him he doesn't care what's going on!! LOL So, yeah, it is actually funny.
I also want to say that this "roll call" idea is really cool. I've been coming to this board for almost 2 years now and I know the "regulars" (LOL) but it's really nice to meet all the new parents of adopted fur kids!!

Hi Everyone! My name is Karen and I have known Arda for several years now, volunteering with everything from transports, fostering, applications, meet-n-greets, to poop scooping. I was owned by 2 dobes when I first met Arda who have since passed and their stories can be found in the memorial pages under Tango and Raven. After Raven's sudden passing, Arda blessed me with Chyna, a precious black cropped and docked little girl. She is now a registered therapy dog and works part time at St Joe's hospital and at local nursing homes in the South Lyon area. Next is Trinket, an elderly black natural eared lady that was supposed to be a routine spring out of Detroit AC that was so ill and had such a badly infected mouth, I opted to foster her and get her to a better state of health. Well, you know how that goes. She has been here with us now for nearly 3 years. Our most recent addition is Ruby, a red/rust cropped girl around a year old. I borrowed her from Arda for the Novi Pet Expo, but she and Chyna got along so well, how could I possibly return her? Now Chyna has met her match and I could watch them all day run through our property. They even curl up together to sleep. I am also owned by a 7-toed cat, named Seven, 2 flemish giant rabbits that the babysitter saved from the pot at the Eastern Market, and 9 koi that live happily in our pond. You can see my children, Derek 7, and Clare 4 as the models for our cafepress store items with our beloved Roscoe. My husband and I live in South Lyon and frequently take our kids and dogs to Island lake park, where dogs are welcome, and to Lyon Oaks bark park, a great place to socialize your dog. Thanks for reading!

Hi Jane. My name is Nancy. I live in No. Lower MI with my 3 dobes. Gretchen is a black/rust 8yr. old raised from a pup. My Harley girl is a red/rust 7yr. old rescue from a shelter in Ind. and Baron, aka "brat kid" is a red/rust 22mo. old rescue from our local shelter. This was a great idea.

Boy, that sounds like a wonderful idea. I'll start using that in place of "stay" because it will carry that special meaning. She's pretty good with "stay" when she is looking at something and I can read her mind ..."oh look at THAT, I think I'll chase that." Then I say "stay" and she is okay. I just needed something else that would stop her in the middle after she already gets going, besides calling her name. I'll try it.
Thanks Allison!!

A. This roll call idea is awesome and I really have to commend Sherri on how great this message board is.
B. I could say "leave it" to Gracie when she sees a squirrel and the only thing that would be left in her dust is me. I REALLY wish I could break her of this, but so far have had no luck even on a pinch collar. Anyone got any suggestions.

We wanted a spiked collar for Tiki when we first got her, but she was new to the neighborhood so I settled for a bright pink one. It made people laugh when I walked her around the block. Dobes are such sweet things that I always laugh when I see the spiked collar. They just wear spikes so doggoned well!!

Hi Scott and Lynn!
It's so nice to meet you! I went over to take a look at Parker and he is a gorgeous animal! From what I read it sounds like he had waited quite awhile for the right family. I've got law enforcement relatives so I'm sure you are the right fit!! Especially if it is K-9. Congratulations!!

Wow, Karen, what a great bio! I want to thank you for all the work you do on behalf of the dobes and those who love them.
I can't believe you had a dobe named Tango. My Tango is the love of my life!
You have so much in here that would make excellent topics in the forum. Like "How to get your dobe registered for therapy dog" "What is pet transportation and what does it involve?" things like that. I, for one, have no idea of what is involved in pet rescuing. What the procedures are or anything like that. I would be interested in hearing about it.
I saw the beautiful pictures on the shirts at the cafepress. You should be so proud of those pictures! They are outstanding in appearance and message.
Thank you so much for taking even more time to introduce yourself. It was a real treat to read!
