Hi All
We adopted Dakota just over a month ago. We have been trying to teach her how to play. Wether it be catch with a ball, frizzbe or anything like that. She doesn't seem to know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to entice her to chase after it? Dakota is three.

You might wanna start with a Kong with Peanut butter in it..

For teaching catch... use popcorn (yes I know about dogs and corn
allergies, but this works best). The popcorn moves really slow,
doesn't hurt when missed, tastes yummy. Other 'toy' items to catch
and do not hurt... 'Flippy Floppy' brand frisbees... those splash
pool toys (foam ball with fabric cover), Koosh balls (bundle of
rubber strings). My dogs all became fantastic catchers with
these. :-) Next thing you know, they are catching farther and
farther, then fetching. Good luck!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions. We keep working with Dakota. More and more she's realizing that we didnt drive all the way from South Dakota to family in Michigan than to Ada and Second Chance Dobes to get her just to neglect her. She is well loved and spoiled.

Hi Kelli, just wanted to know how the wind up toy worked with her. I know they say you shouldn't use treats, but some dogs are strictly food motivated. Sit and offer penut sized dog treats when she comes and when she brings you something. That works often.

I havent been able to find a wind up toy. We live at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota which is ten minuets from Rapid City. We dont have a Pets Mart, Pets Supplies Plus or a similar store out here. I have to basically rely on WalMart. I'm trying to get to the one pet place but their hours are crazy. I was supposed to go this saturday but had to take my other dog to the Vet for a Hematoma on his ear.
