Doogie & Suzzane played and played... then photo time... Doogie is tuckered out and was ready for photo's however Suzzane hates the camera and every photo you all have seen has taken mutiple shots to get them. Anyway, Arda had to hold Suzz and as you can see Doogie loves her. DOGGIE loves everyone! HE is the best! I do not have any photo's of the second date. but let's just say Rosco & Doggie were in a challenge to get Suzzane's attention and Suzzane picked Doggie to run and play with. She wanted to fight Rosco! ( he was just trying to impress her like " here's a branch I tore off the tree just for you" ) It was neat because she & Doggie just took off and ran and played poor, proud Rosco was like "WHAT?"
Doggie comes home forever Friday, Dec 3. This is my b-day and him coming home will be my best present EVER!!!
Arda, I , my husband , everyone knows that Suzzane will have alittle attitude at first but we WILL ALL make it through!!!!!! Doggie deserves to be spoiled rotten just like her! (AND I MEAN SPOILED)
Here's one of the first date..........

Cathy:
In my opinion, Spoiled is just what these rescues deserve to make up for their
past (in some cases) rotten life. Our girls are SPOILED ROTTEN and they deserve
to be. Especially our "Honorary Dobe" Belle. I am very happy for Doogie, he will
be getting a great lifetime home, and you will be getting a great loving companion.

Hi all,
Guess who's here? DOOGIE! and Suzzane is a wonder! She was sleeping on him on the way home! She wanted to play the minute we got home and has even brought Doggie her toys to try to entice him! WOW! She has ran up & down the stairs and Doggie is terrified of them. (Suzzane was at first too)
Arda, said you must let the females pick the males but I thought o.k. when we get home all hell will break loose. NOPE!
He's sleeping and has his back to her! she is trying to snuggle up to him. I think she is in love!
It was a very teary

good bye at SCD. But he has finally found his forever home and I mean forever this time. POOR GUY. He is just wonderful and I can not believe anyone would do the crap they have to him! THANK GOD FOR ADRA AND EVERYONE AT SCD! He is a king and will be treated as such for the rest of his years!
He really loves my husband. Has to see were he's going and what he's doing. ( my husband is like "wow, this is like Suzz with you"
I will post pic's later this weekend.
p.s. Suzz wore a special wedding necklace and Arda said Doggie's collar was his wedding band so he has to keep it on or at least one very similar to it!

Hey check these out!......
Doggie had a bath this morning and no major problems so far... Suzz is still trying to love up to him but he is giving her the cold shoulder? She did go crazy once this morning , as she is still trying to get him to play and he went after her neck (in a mean way ) and she went after his neck? (in a mean way and did not stop until I jumped up and yelled. But then 10min. later they were laying on their pillows???? They are taking turns eating out of each others bowls but share their water???
SHERRI the last picture is for you.. his first x-mas photo...
Any, comments on what to expect, would be greatly appreciated. That whole attack thing was very unexpected. I mean they have been getting along and then a test for dominace?????

Hi Cathy!
Once in I while I get what seems to be a "sudden" outburst from one of the pack. I was told that it meant someone oversteped his/her bounds. I have gone with my mom's theory on kid raising - "I don't care who starts it - everyone is getting in trouble."

It is pretty funny to watch Browine (the only male) because as soon as the girls (who are the ones having the who-gets-to-be-boss problems) even look a each other he goes to his crate. It is like "there is going to be trouble so I will just go to my room now"

Poor thing.

Hey Cathy,
Im sooo glad you took Doodgee, I have a copy of a newspaper
article that was done on him for his leg surgery yrs ago. He had a people
orthopedic surgeon work on him...
He has had a rough life, deserves to live out his remaining years being
a pampered pooch.... From the looks of it he is.
You may have afew more snarling matches, till they get their rules
down between each other.
If you would like copy of news article, send me your address & I will
send it to you.
Good luck, Happy Holidays...

:huggles: Spartacus and I are so very happy that Doogie has been adopted. His history was so very sad. Thank goodness there is a 2nd Chance Dobes to care for him and find him a new home, although it sounds as if Suzie found him and really took to him. I know he and you all will have a wondrful holiday season.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the advice and congrat's. Doggie is doing sooooo well! We went to the vet yesterday and he got a clean bill of health! stool, & blood samples all came back negative! Yippie! ( He will be on antibiotics to help clean up his mouth, has some tatar build up, causing the bad breath, also got some dog toothpaste) Anyone, ever use this toothpaste? I am going to try it this weekend. Any advice?
He is starting to warm up to Suzz and she just wants to play, play, play! Not one accident in the house, can you believe it? Suzz and every other dog I've had has had accidents. Wow! So far.... So excellent!

I don't know the story behind him, but I love the pictures!!! They look so happy. I love seeing pictures like that. About the toothpaste, using gauze wrapped around your finger works pretty well. That way it dosen't hurt their gums and helps get them used to it.
cathy
Dec 14 2004, 07:48 PM
Well,
I took the gauze advice. Doogie LOOOves It! Suzzane wants to eat the whole tube! Doodgers lays and starts to fall asleep as I clean his teeth. Boy, he is getting sooo much love and his teeth are cleaning up so nicley. He is eating more & more. I believe beacause his teeth are getting better AND he is starting to relax.
WE had our first snow. WOW! HE LOVES IT!!! He RUNS around and tosses it with his nose. He is just being wonderful and starting to come out of his shell. This poor boy has been through hell and back. My husband & I only want him to relax and enjoy himself.
He had his first accident. It was my fault as I mixed a little canned food in with his dry. Sunday dinner. Anyway, He was so scared, shaking, trembiling, embarassed. He knew it was wrong but could not wait. Whoever potty trained him did not do it with positive re-enforcement.
It p***#$% me that someone would do this to any dog!
We did not scold him and have had no problems since. Imagine that!We are so fortunate to have Doodg here. He has only been here a 1 1/2 wk and he is showing that the people who tried to hurt him will NEVER break his spirit!
We just fall more in love with him everyday!

Dec 19 2004, 07:04 PM
Well, Doodg had his first x-mas at one of his g-ma's this weekend. He was really nervous when we got there. ( I believe he thought he was getting left somewhere once again) When he realized that we were all staying, he realxed and started sucking up all the petting, oooo, aaaah, pretty boy, stuff.
We when up north and they have about 6" of snow. Boy, he just loves it. Prances around, Struts, Runs, Plays, acts like he's a teenager again. It's great! He let's you know o.k. " I'm cold can we go in now?" He is starting to warm up to Suzz. She loves him, she's been kissing him, licking his ears, sharing everything, even her food! He does not pull away from her now!
He recieved ALL kinds of presents and boy did he love all the attention!
He has 2 more x-mas get togethers to go to and I hope he enjoys them as much as he did this one. Suzz has been to all of these places and she just loves to show him everything. It should be interesting when he finds he has another house that is his (the cabin) and he gets to be the king of that too!
HE LOVES HIS BEDS!! I think they are really helping his leg. It does not shake that much at all anymore, He's just doing wonderful and starting to show everyone that his is one special, terrific boy!

Hi All,
Just another update... Doodgee is coming right along and he was nervous at his last Christmas but we got the toys out and he is finally starting to realize it is o.k. to chew on them. (Only take Suzz a few minutes to destroy any toy!) He does not know what to do with a toy. He is learning that it is o.k. to be a dog and he can get excited without getting in trouble. He seems so scared that he will get scolded for anything and we just keep praising him. His confidence is coming along. I know we have along way to go but he is SOOO worth it. I can not understand why he has been through all he has?
Doodgee is wonderful! Suzz and him love to play in the yard, but I believe he was never allowed to do anything in the house, so no roamping through the house yet, but Suzz has not gave up and is still trying to get him to play inside too.
I hope he can over come his past and just have fun. Here's a pic of them in the yard yesterday.

We just adopted another dobe too. We now have 2 females (3 year old Jewels and 10 month old Ellen)...I am looking for the same info. I don't know when to step in and when to let them go at it. They are angels when my husband is around, but when I am home alone with them Jewels is constiantly trying to show her dominance. I feel like I am picking on her because I am always correcting her.
Any idea on how long it will take for them to accept eachother? It has only been 1 and 1/2 weeks so I'm sure I have a while!! They sure are lucky I love them so much!!

Teri,
Well, you have not had them that long and it will take a little longer. I just raise my voice and tell them "That is enough!" I went with the advice I recieved as it does not matter who starts it your both in trouble! Doodgge has been here 1 month today and they are able to stay together alone now and do just fine. I do not leave toys, or food though, as we still have a few issues in that area. Once they started getting along, I started leaving them alone in very short increments. I mean short! I would check the mail, or walk around outside for a few minutes. Alittle longer each time and now they are fine. PLEASE make sure they are getting along before you try this! You will know when it is time.
Give your babies somemore time they will adjust.

Here are some update Photo's
The first one is Doodgee having a blast at the cabin in about a foot of snow.
The second one is Doodge getting excited about his toys.
The third one is how the down stairs living room looks every night when it's time to get out the toys!
The forth one is Suzzane & Doodgee playing the "chase" game in the yard today.
Doodgee is finally starting to come out of his shell. Baby steps, but hey, we are on the way. Suzzane is helping as she is more of a show-off now than she has ever been.
I woke up the other morning and they were actually snuggling together. That was a first as Suzzane has been pushing herself on him and he is not to sure about his new wife. (I think he thinks she is such a prissy girl)

Ha! (Did I mention spoiled)
So with the start of a new year ... the Gray Family is off and running

Doodgee, was the love of our lives. Sherri, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. the day he went to the bridge. My only regret is we did not adopt him sooner. He passed away June 12, 2006. We adopted him Dec 3, 2004. Him and Suzzane were inseperatable. They bonded like no other. Suzz was as lost as we were and we got 2 buddies for her but she has not bonded with them like she did Doodg. Everyday, I wear a very small memory charm with his ashes and we had a private creamation for him. Doodg is always right next to my heart. Cathy let her love for Doogie blossom into a wonderful rescue when she formed formed the
RPSM (Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan) group to save unwanted and unloved animals. They started the first stray dog prison program in Michigan. Program benefits prisoners, dogs
COLDWATER — A program that is the first of its kind in Michigan has teamed stray dogs with prisoners in the hopes of training the dogs to find them homes.
Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan (RPSM) had partnered with the Lakeland and Florence Crane Correctional Facilities to form a prisoner-dog foster care and training program. The first group of dogs recently entered the prison, and 9-10 animals will be trained every three months.
