Michigan State Senator Garcia sponsored legislation to ban the sale of shelter pets to research. This important legislation will stop thousands of Michigan pets from ending up in research labs. To learn more about how our pets end up in research labs Click here

With your support we can finally put an end to this barbaric practice. Pets deserve more from us. They give us unconditional love, make us laugh, comfort us when we cry and many times are the one constant in our lives. If we should not be able to care for them, they deserve humane treatment. We shudder to think of the senior citizen who dies without making provisions for their pets. Many times families drop off those beloved companions at shelters. Although their former caretaker would be very sad if their furry friend was euthanized, imagine how devastating it would be to learn their fate was a research lab. What if you are traveling through a city or county that sells pet to research and your pet becomes lost and ends up being sold by a shelter to a lab? This is just wrong and with your help we will protect our pets.

The B Dealers and Universities will scream - but what about all of the wonderful advances we could make if we used animals in research. The answer: this isn't about animals in research or whether using animals in research is necessary. What this is about is our pets and how they are treated by the shelters that were set up for their protection. Research on animals will not stop because MSU can't get a hold of your dog Fluffy. Research on the cure for cancer will not end because your cat Snickers is safe. We are not debating the merits of animal research. We are saying STOP TAKING OUR PETS!!!

You can help
Sherri
The bills were introduced by Senator Valde Garcia. SB542 and SB543 will stop shelters from selling our pets to research.

Studies have shown that legislators respond to letters from constituents. They want to know your opinions on legislation. Even though we are used to emailing, legislators take a letter written on paper more seriously than an email. You can find your state Senator by cllick here

We've put together a sample letter that you can use as a guide, Sample Letter

You can also ask everyone you know to write or call their Senator. Your vet, your doctor, local business people, explain what that we need to stop selling our pets and ask them to help. If you have adopted one of these pets that were endanger of being sold please include picture of pet in your letter.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
