Lacey left Sun. Aug. 22nd with her new family, and again it was proven that these animals know when people are here to adopt them, and when they are just my company. Lacey would always be excited whenever someone came over, but just the usual doggie excitement. Within a few minutes, she would calm down and go off to play with the other dogs.
It was entirely different though this Sun. when Fred and Tammy came in with two of their three children. They all squatted down to greet her and she went nuts! She was so excited, it looked exactly like a family coming home from vacation and greeting their pet. She "picked" them immediately. She bounced from one to the other, like a ball in a pinball machine, planting kisses on each of them. Her tail was wagging so hard, it made her butt go right along with it. They loved her on first sight too.
We all went out in the backyard for a few minutes and she was just estatic! She was running around in happy puppy circles, yet kept coming back to see where their son was. When they took her around the block for a "test drive", she just bounced along happily and didn't even look to see if I was also there. By then I didn't exist for her anymore, she had people that actually belonged to just her! Also, the night before they came she was all over me! She just couldn't get enough lovies, no matter how much I gave her. I think she could sense that something was up.
The amazing thing is the way she was with Fred! This is a dog who was beaten by a guy and was really scared of them. Every time she saw a guy, her tail went between her legs, her head went down , and she'd hunt for the nearest hiding place. Not with Fred. She was just as happy to see him as she was to see the rest of them. In fact, by the time they left she was on her back letting Fred rub her belly.
When they got in the van to leave, she didn't even try to get out the sliding door which was open for a few minutes. She couldn't decide if she wanted to lay next to the son on the floor, or curl up on a soft seat next to the daughter,so she kept going back and forth. During this time she walked over to the open door, did a quick glance outside, and went back to her family. She wasn't going to let them out of her sight, so she stayed inside.
So now the house is less hectic, but it's too darned quiet and feels a little empty. I am just so happy for Lacey that makes it a little easier to bear. Fred and Tammy said they will keep us updated with stories and pictures, can't wait to hear from them.

Hi Momma Dawn,
I am just as happy as I can be with my new family. They built me a play-yard and when mom goes to dring coffee in the morning I run and run in circles with my bone or what-ever ball OR toy I pick to take outside. Every morning I am so excited to see my boy and girls I just wiggle all over. I run in big circles greeting everyone and looking forward to todays adventure. I met my grandpa and gramma and they love me too. I have an aunt dog named Abbie and her and I are already friends. My Cats name is Topaz! He loves to stare at me and he isn't afraid of me because I know not to chase him.
My favorite things to do is take walks to the end of the road and meet doggy friends and if we go the other way my mom lets me run in a Christmas tree farm.

I like to go to pet-smart too. I got to help mom find me a collar there and helped pick out Topaz's new food. Mom bought me some natural bones and I get them for sitting and laying down. I am learning how to shake and ask to go out with the bell on our door. I'm getting lots and lots of loveies cuz my new family really needed me. Hugs! Lacy

Tammy, thanks for the message from Lacey. I can just picture her running and being so-o-o happy. That picture in my head has put a big grin on my face and a lump in my throat.

I always got a lot of laughs just watching her enjoy herself here. She went from a little girl who was afraid to do anything for fear of being beaten; to a happy, rollicking puppy. You saw how she liked to get up on the little house and tree stump. She would get a good running start, jump up there and then would look at me with an expression of pure happiness. She would also "fly" over a short fence I put around a tarp-covered dirt pile. My dogs learned it was a boundry and shouldn't go over it, and Lacey did to. But she couldn't resist jumping over it. She didn't do any damage, just jumped over and right back out, wagging her tail the whole time.
I feel so good that she is getting so many lovies, finally. Your family is the perfect family for her cause you will let her know the joy of being a bouncing, curious, puppy, and the security of being loved unconditionally.
Keep us updated on her life and send pictures. Never get tired of hearing updates, NEVER!

Hi Dawn,
I thought you might be wondering how Lacey has been doing. I took her to the vet and they had to squeeze her anal glands. She didn't have any worms.

We have been working on introducing her to people through walking her around them. It was obvious at first how nervous she was. She is getting better. We also make her sit when someone new comes over and tell her it is ok to sniff them. Then we tell them not to interact with her too much. This has been working quite well too. I have found a place to let me train her. There is a limit of ten dogs in the class. I think she will like this because she is always very friendly to other dogs and is very very smart. She is shaking her paw and rolling over now!! She still has occasional accidents but maybe only 4 total in the house since we have had her. Fred has been layed off so when I went back to work he has been staying with Lacey. She has grown much closer to him and is really quite comfortable with him and the rest of the family now. (At first she stuck quite close to me)
I can't acces her through petfinder anymore so I thought I would send you some pictures of her. The first two pictures are of Lacey in the play-yard Fred built for her. The next are in our living room. I can only fit four on this file but rest assured there are many more. See you soon.
